The CW TV network in the United States has confirmed plans to revive the hit 90s soap/drama
Melrose Place, following the success of its revived 90210 tv show.
90210 - a remake of the Fox network's original series
Beverly Hills, 90210 - has been a big hit for the young CW network. (The show's 2 hour premiere last month was the CW's highest rated scripted debut).
Melrose Place was itself a spin-off show from
Beverly Hills, 90210 and starred the likes of Courtney Thorne-Smith, Andrew Shue, Thomas Calabro, Rob Estes, and Heather Locklear. It ran on Fox from 1992 to 1999, following the goings on around a West Hollywood apartment complex.
The original series was created by Darren Star, and produced by Aaron Spelling. CBS Productions are expected to produce any new series, as they are already responsible for the CW's new
90210 series.
Plans for a relaunched
Melrose Place show are still in the early stages, but it's understood the series could make it onto the CW's television schedule for the 2009/10 season.
There is no word yet on the return of any former cast members from the original 90's show, but there is a strong possibility, given that
90210 has featured cameos by former
Beverly Hills stars Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty.
